ABOUT

Sophie Arstall & Elizabeth Barker

Average Height Ladies is a performance duo conceived by Sophie Arstall and Elizabeth Barker. We began as a series of sketches, exploring both Vintage and Contemporary dance forms, creating worlds where our interests in design, costume, music, theatre and technology could be combined whilst keeping dance at it's core. Since 2012 we have created several live dance works and one short film, for specific spaces, flexible trails and proscenium theatres. Average Height Ladies have been commissioned by several leading dance and performance bodies to create To the Ends of The Fingertips, Dancing Tales, A Curious Cakewalk and The Imaginarium of Alice. Find out more by clicking on the photos or projects tabs.

Following her BA and postgraduate training (Transitions Dance Company) at LABAN, her career has spanned both a broad spectrum of performance, and costume design. Her performance credits include several works with Punchdrunk, Beyond Front@, Ben Duke/Handspring Puppet Company, The Playground New Zealand and Rosemary Lee. As a costume designer and maker her work has been presented by Dog Kennel Hill/Transitions Dance Company, Ben Wright's BGroup, Hofesh Shechter Dance Company, Rosemary Butcher, Matthias Sperling and Robert Clark, amongst many others.
